METHOD
STEP 1
Preheat the oven to 190gr. Grease a turban shape very well.
STEP 2
Beat the butter loose with the sugar until it is a creamy and light mixture. Add the eggs 1 to 1 and knock through the eggs. Then stir in the lemon zest.
STEP 3
Mix well the flour, baking powder and salt. Mix the water and lemon juice in another bowl. Add half the flour and moisture to the butter mixture and knock well. Then add the other halves and knock again. Last, gently stir the poppy seed through the batter.
STEP 4
Make the batter in the turban shape and bake the cake in 40-45 minutes. If you put a satine prick in it and it comes out dry, the cake is ready.
STEP 5
If you want to add syrup, this is the time. Heat the sugar, water and lemon juice in a pan until all sugar is dissolved. Pour this over the cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. Leave the turban shape one night with this syrup.
STEP 6
The next morning, you pour the cake on a plate and you make the topping.
STEP 7
Put the cream cheese, butter, icing sugar and vanilla essence in a mixing bowl and knock with a mixer until you have a creamy and airy topping. Apply the top of the turban all the way in with this. And if you happen to have a piece of the turban crumbled during the landfill (like with me) you can shape this away with the topping!
STEP 8
Finally sprinkle a little poppy seed on it and then enjoy!
